MSW FAQ
What can I do with an MSW degree?
The MSW degree gives students the skills to do casework, clinical work with individuals,
groups, and families, and community work. Our graduates work with people in need
in multifarious settings including schools, hospitals, clinics, government agencies,
social service agencies, residential placements, corrections, etc.
How is an MSW different from a degree in Psychology or Counseling?
The field of social work views and intervenes with people across many systems including
biological, psychological, spiritual, familial, neighborhood, and community. This
perspective of human behavior is much broader than other fields and far more comprehensive.
The MSW degree is considered one of the fastest growing careers in the U.S.
I don’t have a Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW). Do I need to take extra courses
before starting the MSW program?
No, all the courses you need are contained within the program, so you will not need
any additional courses.
Do I have to take the GRE?
Yes, all students regardless of their undergraduate degree or gpa must take the
GRE within 5 years of admission.
My gpa and/or GRE is lower than I’d hoped. Can I still get accepted to the program?
The admissions’ process for the MSW program is competitive. However, the admissions
committee considers an applicant’s entire packet when determining admission. This
includes gpa, GRE, references, biographical statement and work/volunteer history.
Do you have different tracks or concentrations?
No, our program has one focus which is a clinical tracks.
How is the program different across campuses?
The MSW program contains the same curriculum across campuses. So all students receive
the same education no matter the campus they attend.
